GOVERNOR RON DESANTIS SIGNS CONDO BILLS

An Opinion By Jan Bergemann

On Monday morning Governor Ron DeSantis signed HB 913 (CONDO 3.0) + HB 393 (My Safe Florida Condominium Pilot Program) at a public appearane in Clearwater. He called them the "CONDO RELIEF BILLS". Many condo owners have been waiting for this monent, especially considering the fact the programs "My Safe Florida Home" and "My Safe Florida Condo" are going to receive huge amounts of funds in the proposed budgets.

This is what the GOVERNOR'S BUDGET has been setting aside for these programs:

Investing in Residential Home Mitigation Programs and Florida’s Property Insurance Market

The Governor’s Budget invests nearly $590 million to help reduce insurance premiums for homeowners through additional home hardening and mitigation inspections and grants through the My Safe Florida Home Grant Program. This includes $480 million in additional current year funding to immediately begin awarding up to 45,000 grants and an additional $109 million next fiscal year in recurring funding to make the Program permanent by serving 10,000 homeowners annually.

The Governor’s Budget also restores the My Safe Florida Home Condominium Pilot Program with $30 million to continue to provide financial assistance to condominium associations to increase hurricane resistance.

Despite the fact that these are definitely record numbers, board members will be well advised to apply for these grants as soon as possible. The demand will be great -- and July 1, 2025, the day the new budget will start, is already next week.

Get going if you want to get a piece of the pie -- and that goes for condo board members and homeowners alike!
