Residents Allowed Back In

(CBS4 News) MIAMI BEACH Friday residents of the first four floors of the Castle Beach Club Condominium were allowed back into their homes, complete with a ribbon cutting ceremony.

It might seem ironic, but it’s a relief to many, after their building was condemned by Miami Beach city officials in April of last year after severe electrical and fire safety violations were found. Upset residents had 12 hours upon notice to gather their belongings and leave their apartments in the building located on Collins Avenue and 54th Street.

The board of directors was kicked out and a new one was put in by a judge to clean up the mess left behind. Safety hazards such as exposed wiring and a faulty fire alarm system were corrected after billions of dollars were poured into the project.

In a way, this Friday was a bitter-sweet victory for residents.

Residents of the next four floors are expected to be allowed in within the next month and then each subsequent floor will open on a weekly basis after that.
