APOPKA, Fla. -- An Apopka homeowner's association is threatening to tow cars if residents violate a strict new parking rule.

But Eyewitness News has learned the rule might be against the law. Many homeowners in the Sheeler Oaks subdivision found stickers on their cars, Wednesday morning, warning them not to park on their own grass.

The association's board said it's trying to cleanup the neighborhood.

"We have them to do right by us, but when they go beyond that how can we protect ourselves," asked Reginald Stephens, a Sheeler Oaks resident.

Residents said they're also not allowed to park in the streets. The manager of the HOA told Channel 9 she tried to warn board members because of a change in Florida's law this summer that what they're doing might be illegal.
