Julio Robaina was born in Miami and raised in the City of South Miami. State Representative Julio Robaina is no stranger to public service. He retired from AT&T after 31 years serving the citizens of Miami-Dade County. Throughout his life, Representative Robaina has never stopped searching for ways to further involve himself in his community.
Representative Robaina has a long history of service to the community. During his tenure as the first Hispanic Mayor of the City of South Miami, the Honorable Julio Robaina proactively addressed changes and challenges unprecedented in the modern history of South Miami.
Under his stewardship, the City of
South Miami
was one of the top ten cities in the
United States
in 2001 to receive the honor of being named “
All-America
City
” by the National Civic League.
As an effort to work directly with the community, Representative Robaina serves on the boards of the following groups: American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life, Film and Entertainment Advisory Board, Florida Unit of Recording for the Blind and Dyslexic, the Special Olympics, Habitat for Humanity, and Informed Families. He is currently the Chair of Hands on Miami.
After proudly serving the City of South Miami, Julio Robaina was elected to the Florida
House of Representatives for District 117 on November 5, 2002. During his first term as a representative, he served on the following committees: Local Government Council, Health & Families Council, Health Care General Committee, State Administration Appropriations Committee, Transportation Committee and the Select Committee to Protect Private Property Rights.
During the legislative term of 2002-2004 he was assigned Chair of the Select Committee on Condominium Association Governance, and Vice Chair of Local Government & Veterans Affairs. He served on several committees, including: Business Regulation, Health Care, Transportation, Select Committee on Florida’s Economic Future,
Select Committee to Protect Private Property Rights, and the Subcommittee on Energy. As
Representative, Robaina also served as the Vice Chair of the Miami-Dade Legislative Delegation in 2005.
Unopposed, Representative Robaina was re-elected in 2004-2006. During these two years, he served on the following committees: Health Quality and Government Efficiency & Accountability Council. He served as Chair of Urban & Local Affairs. To deal with pending issues in the State of Florida, Representative Robaina was appointed as the Chairman of the Select Committee on Condominium and Homeowner’s Association Governance. Representative Robaina has always been at the forefront of establishing laws to protect the consumers of the State of Florida. He will surely continue to work for his constituents, just as he has worked during the past fourteen years.
As a vigilant public servant for District 117, Representative Robaina was elected for his final term to the Florida House of Representatives in 2008. As his priorities, he
continued to protect the rights of his constituents and created laws that will benefit the State of Florida.
Representative Robaina served as Chair of the Criminal & Civil Justice Policy Council. He also served on the Full Appropriations Council on General Government & Health Care, Government Accountability Act Council, Health & Family Services Policy
Council and the Select Committee on Seminole Indian Compact Review. |
