Residents of the Los Sueños de Hialeah residential complex have begun efforts to remove members of the condominium's board of directors, accusing them of a lack of transparency in finances, El Nuevo Herald reports.

The neighbors, said Leonardo Vidal, one of the residents, are seeking to remove Arelys López from office, who for almost a decade has served as president of the Los Sueños Homeowners Association.

Vidal claimed that there is no will to honestly manage residents' money, and that after their investigations they have discovered a lack of transparency.

"We, the residents, are outraged. The owners are generally disillusioned," he added.

However, Arelys López confessed to being surprised by the recall, explaining that maintenance was increased only 10% very recently, with the aim of hiring an insurance company.

"Our condominium is so run down that no company was interested in insuring us," he explained.

The president of the Association of Owners added that she does not believe that any recall will be successful, and assured that there is transparency in the board of directors.

Five years ago, that condominium accumulated the highest debt for drinking water service in Hialeah, amounting to $1.109.128.

Last September, Los Sueños' debt was regularized, according to a source from the Hialeah City Council.

Another owner of the complex argued that the recall is necessary because residents do not agree with the way Los Sueños is run, and when they ask about money, the board of directors does not give them sensible answers.
