WHY CITIZENS SHOULD JOIN ?
Today's citizens are like a Timex watch...we take a licking and keep on ticking. Peter Marshall said, "Measure life by the quality, not by the quantity". We not only want to add quality to our lives but help the next generation to live better. Tom Brokaw's book THE GREATEST GENERATION salutes us for surviving, creativity, strength and courage to stand up to monsters like Hitler. With all this going for us, isn't it a cinch to get behind a Voters Right Initiative and proving Tom knows what he is talking about ? Do we dare waste our remaining years feeding our face, hearing TV soaps, closing the doors on our next generation. Aren't you a little miffed our Canadian brothers and Mexican cousins can buy prescription drugs over the counter for as little as $10 we pay out $100 for? Don't you know at least one friend or relative wasting away in a nursing home ripping off seniors and Medicare for $3000 a month to turn aging humans into vegetables? Congress declared anyone earning less than $16,000 a year is living in poverty, but Congress has never been ethical enough to say, no more income tax for the poverty level." Don't many citizens live on less than $10,000 a year? Didn't we grow up with the promise "A Man's Home Is His Castle"? Haven't we lived to see citizens evicted in handcuffs by the sheriff from those new castles called homeowners' associations because no one wants to tackle a quasi-government monster, mis-sold as security and comfort? Wouldn't it be nice, if all citizens could enjoy fruitful employment as long as their health and energy permits? A lot of misinformed officials blame seniors for auto accidents. I did a survey that shows Florida is so woefully behind in highway and city traffic signs, reduced speed on curves, side streets, left turn traffic lights, bold street signs you can read in daylight or dark, cheap reflectors at country turn lanes, etc. We aren't careless drivers, like teenagers, we are lost souls looking for missing signs. Due to the fact that Florida is the land of lakes, there are very few straight streets and a little clean up to remove trees and shrubs at intersections would eliminate blind spots. It's so easy to say seniors are blind instead of placing the blame on blind spots. They admit citizens are a target for scams, but if half the officials would investigate and prosecute, criminals responsible for scams would get the message. The sad truth is, law enforcement almost quit going after any crime except drugs because the forfeiture law has enriched them with property seized and arresting someone for robbery or murder just gets them off the street. Values take second
place in today's world of priority. Let's hear it for the return of real
values.
Aren't you fed up
with legislators who let lobbyists buy them off after we spend all that
good tax money to let them live in style and enjoy many perks we never
had?
Wouldn't you like to know the message of our founding fathers will be treated with respect and no one shall trick us into losing the best constitution known to man? I've traveled the USA many times and covered almost every mile and in my heart I know Tom Brokaw is right -- we are the Greatest Generation and by cricket, let's comb the cobwebs out of our hair, straighten up our shoulders, polish up the specs, adjust the hearing aid if you have one, get the lead out and make a million man march, mile by mile, each one tell one - so every single citizen gets the message. It's time for payback and the best payback possible is signing up with a Voters Right Initiative with enough heart to put more humanity into our life and prove the only choice we have is not being over the bridge or under the bridge. We didn't survive to be quitters and I hope I run into some of you at coffee club meetings, recreation centers, church gatherings, etc. speaking out. So, be one of us and let's try together to make Florida a better place to live. Even our legislators can't overlook the combined power of us, the Citizens and Voters! Don't forget - the letters to editors, call in shows and local Chamber of Commerce Newsletters help. Willow for Victory - Vance |
