JUPITER -- If all goes according to George Andres' grand old plan, Gov. Jeb Bush will help him fly his Grand Old Flag on Friday, Flag Day.

Andres has been fighting with the Indian Creek Homeowners Association over his flagpole. The association says he can fly the flag, but only on a bracket. Andres' flag hangs on a 12-foot pole, which violates association rules.

The legal battle has been going on for years and Andres, a Korean War veteran, has racked up $22,000 in fines levied by the association.

His attorney, Barry Silver, was back in court on the case Wednesday and said that Bush is going to try to celebrate Flag Day with Andres at his home on Doe Trail.

The governor's office said Bush hopes to visit Andres, but plans have not been finalized.

Bush sent Andres a letter of support May 28, wishing him luck in his legal fight. Bush also clarified that House Bill 148 was passed specifically to allow homeowners like Andres to fly small American flags in front of their homes.
