REVIEWS

Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation’s

Division of Land Sales, Condominiums, and Mobile Homes

PLEASE NOTE: THIS REVIEW CONCERNS AS WELL OWNERS IN HOAS

PLEASE READ THE OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT OF OPPAGA:

The Florida Legislature’s Office of Program Policy Analysis and Government Accountability (OPPAGA) is reviewing the Department of Business and Professional Regulation’s Division of Land Sales, Condominiums, and Mobile Homes. Our review will evaluate the division’s performance of its primary functions, including its processes for handling consumer complaints. Our review will also identify opportunities for improving the division’s effectiveness in performing its primary functions. However, our review will not look at the merits of individual consumer complaints nor try to achieve resolution for those complaints.

To gather information from concerned citizens about the division’s complaint processing activities, OPPAGA has developed an online questionnaire. The questionnaire is provided in both English and Spanish and can be accessed by clicking on the following link: http://www.oppaga.state.fl.us/nosearch/surveys/complaintresolution.htm

Or, you may copy this URL into your browser if the link is not active. If you do not have Internet access, please contact me and I will send you a paper copy of the questionnaire.

Your participation is OPPAGA’s review is vital. Please complete the questionnaire by December 17th. If you have any questions or comments about the questionnaire, please contact me at (850) 487-9217 or at [email protected].

Thank you for your assistance with this important project.

Sincerely,

Richard H. Woerner, C.I.A.
Senior Legislative Analyst

PLEASE NOTE DEADLINE FOR RESPONSE:

DECEMBER 17, 2004!

It is very important that you file your complaints timely and without the emotions often involved. The staff of OPPAGA is looking for accurate feedback to determine the existing problems and propose ways to improve the system and make it more consumer-friendly.

Your participation is very important so our legislators can be supplied with a report that might lead to serious improvement of the flawed system.

I know emotions run very high on this issue, but please let's refrain from name-calling and help the OPPAGA staff to create  evaluation of this department, which has proven over and over again that it is not doing the job taxpayers are paying for!

Our legislators, lead by former Senate President Jim King, gave us the possibility to help creating a report that will show that the many complaints were justified -- and will finally lead to the necessary changes.

Condo owners don't trust the Department, not only in regards to the Division of Land Sales, Condominiums, and Mobile Homes. Many citizens are convinced -- ['m one of them -- that the department often is in cahoots with the industry -- the same people they are supposed to regulate!

If this department wants to regain the trust of the taxpayers who are paying the cost. Many changes are necessary. Believe me, there is a reason why many owners claim that the DBPR is protecting the industry and the professionals they are supposed to regulate!

So, please give the OPPAGA staff all the info they need to make the right proposals!

Time is of essence!
