On Wednesday, March 5, 2003 members of the full Senate Health, Aging and Long Term Care Committee plan to vote on recommendations from the finalized report of the Joint Select Committee on Nursing Homes.

The Committee will be meeting from 12:30 PM - 2:30 PM in Room 412 of the Knott Building.  At this time, there is no bill number, but the nursing home bill capping damages will be noticed for the Senate Health, Aging and Long Term Care Committee meeting on March 5, 2003.
 
Unfortunately, we are hearing that some of our "friends" on the Committee are "soft" on the issue of capping damages awarded to victims of nursing home abuse.  These "friends" are saying they aren't hearing enough against the caps from their constituents and people in their communities.  You can be assured, however, that they HAVE heard PLENTY from the Insurance and Nursing Home industries!   In addition, the Governor is trying hard to make this a “must pass” issue.
 
Now is the time for action!

IF YOU AGREE THAT TORT REFORM FOR NURSING HOME RESIDENTS ALREADY OCCURRED AT THE TIME SENATE BILL 1202 WAS ENACTED IN 2001, PLEASE start calling and e-mailing the Senators on the Committee TODAY and URGE THEM TO VOTE AGAINST CAPS ON DAMAGES IN NURSING HOME CASES.   The Committee members especially need to hear from senior citizens and their loved ones...
