Homeowners’ Right to Display Flags

SB 1454 is the companion bill to HB 437  filed by Representative Vern Buchanan on January 24, 2023.    

We should support SB 1454, effective as of July 1, 2023. 

 The bill amends s.720.304, F.S. to override  covenants, restrictions, or bylaws in governing documents on displays of flags and authorizes homeowners to peaceably assemble and  display in a respectful manner up to two specified (permissible) flags no larger than 4 1/2 feet by 6 feet.   Permissible flags include: United States, State of Florida, POW-MIA, Air Force, Marine Corps, Space Force, or Coast Guard, and first responders.    The term “first responder flag” includes: law enforcement officers; firefighters; paramedics; nurses, EMT, correctional officers; and 911 public safety telecommunicators.

EFFECTIVE JULY 1, 2023
