AARP BILL of RIGHTS for HOMEOWNERS

Many of us always wonder: Who are the owners who support these specialized attorneys and lobbyist groups like "CALL"? What are their motives?
The official written letters to the editor don't always tell the whole story, since the letter wouldn't be printed if written in the style these people normally communicate. But it sure says a lot about the people and the lobbyist organizations like "CALL", who rely on their support.

One example is Margaret M. Gatto, a lady who has been very eager to send letters and e-mails to various people, mostly not very nice. These letters are really telling the whole story -- not just the politically correct part!

In today's Sun Sentinel was one of her letters, declaring Gary Poliakoff's letter regarding the AARP Bill of Homeowners' Rights "terrific". Here is the letter:

Condo rules are about community

Re the Sept. 2 letter, "Condo owners' rights, obligations": Thank you for this terrific letter and for citing and quoting from the case of Sterling Village Condominium Inc. v. Breitenbach, 251 So.2d 685.

The district court's words suggest the responsibility of each of us to our community whether or not managed by a condominium association and/or homeowner association. There's an old saying, "Your right to swing your arm stops where my nose begins." It's not about what is good for one or some individuals; it's about what is good and in the best interests of the entire community.

As far as the AARP's proposed bill, I had goosebumps on my arms when I first read it -- and they weren't happy goosebumps.

Actually, I have been getting goose bumps when reading some of her other letters directed to various people.

Here are some highlights:

Jan. 30 , 2005

"I live in Weston one of the most beautiful cities in the country [thanks to its homeowners association]. Some of the people, especially the Hispanics, i.e., Venezuelans, Columbians, etc., etc.- who have moved into this city over the last ten years do not like rules, don't abide by rules, don't care about rules - but most important they DO NOT TAKE CARE OF THEIR PROPERTY AND DON'T PAY THEIR BILLS ON TIME! This is not only my opinion, but that of many of my dearest friends who are Hispanic] They left their uncivilized countries and came here to create the same chaos. We are not going to destroy our community or South Florida because of them or because of any other ignorance who doesn't like following rules.

Look at our highways. Trash all over the streets. We never had trash in the streets 20 years ago. People maintained their homes, cut their grass and didn't put trash out three ahead of trash day.

If these people don't like condo associations or homeowner association, then they can move where there aren't any, but I doubt even these people would want to live in those neighborhoods!"

Or another e-mail by Margaret Gatto to a Florida House Representative (again just the "highlights"):

March 29, 2006

"I am so disgusted with what I call you guys the "condo Taliban," I could scream.  You and your cronies do not have the best interests of the majority of homeowners at heart, but the interests of that certain group of people who want to live like pigs, not abide by the rules and regulations of a community they bought into and not pay their maintenance on time so that the majority of people who are responsible have to pick up the shortfall."

Gee, "terrific" -- or terrifying? -- letters! Gary Poliakoff and CALL can be proud to have this kind of supporters! I think these letters just speak for itself!

And you still think owners in homeowners' and condo associations don't need

"A HOMEOWNERS' BILL OF RIGHTS"?
