Villagers living near a pond drained twice this year by a sinkhole, let their Community Development District supervisors know they don’t want to lose their water view.

Village of Bonnybrook residents who live near a pond on Pimlico Executive Golf Course showed up Friday morning at the CDD 5 supervisor meeting.

They were concerned that supervisors might consider filling in the pond that has been problematic for more than a decade. The pond was drained by a sinkhole in February and again by another sinkhole earlier this month.

Residents said they are concerned that the solution might be filling in the pond.

Heavy equipment was on site at Pimlico Executive Golf Course earlier this year.

“When you buy a home, you pay a premium for your view,” said Allan McFarlane, who lives on Callaway Drive and has a home overlooking the pond.

However, residents were reassured that the ponds not only create aesthetic value, but also play a critical role in stormwater management. The pond is in place under a permit through the water management district.

Sam Wartinbee of District Property Management said the Pimlico pond has been fixed and recent rain has filled it back up.
