PALM BAY -- The former president of a local homeowners association has been arrested for stealing thousands of dollars from his neighbors, according to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.

The FDLE said Guillermo Alonso, 53, of Palm Bay, was taken into custody after a year long investigation into the theft of $275,000 from the Palm Bay Club Condominiums Homeowner's Association.

Investigators said Alonso used the money to fix his own home and buy personal items.

Alonso also hired his own company to manage the property, the FDLE said.
