Boca Falls is blocking US mail, Fedex and UPS delivery during
several days of repaving.
BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) — A hastily announced plan to resurface streets
in the western community of Boca Falls is under fire from residents angered that
police and fire rescue response will be hampered and US Mail, Fedex and UPS
delivery will be prevented for several days.
The street resurfacing, announced
just last week via an entrance sign, starts Tuesday. A mass
email announcing the plan was only sent by the HOA board
Sunday morning. Residents contacting BocaNewsNow.com are
expressing concern that the plan is ill-conceived and does
not take into account those who rely on door to door
transportation — such as parents with infants and the
infirm, or those who rely on the postal service, UPS or
Fedex to deliver time-sensitive documents or medication.
Entire sections of communities will be shut down for nearly
48 hours during the repaving and all access will be blocked.

Blocking
delivery of the US mail is a violation of federal law.
|
are being told to park their cars away from their homes.
Writes community manager Deb Delvechhio in Sunday's email:
“Once your part of the street is blocked off, it is closed. This means if your
car is in the driveway, it must stay there. If it is not in the driveway, you
will not be able to access your driveway until your street is reopened…Mail, UPS
Fedex services will be interrupted.”
In an email to BocaNewsNow.com, Boca Falls HOA president David Etzer wrote the
board decided against paving one side of a street at a time with the exception
of streets leading into the sub divisions. This procedure is routinely used —
with a flag person — to ensure paving does not prevent access.
“(The contractor) mentioned that sometimes when you separate, it causes a
permanent seam down the middle and can also cause both halves to be slightly
different colors.”
It was unclear mid-day Sunday if Boca Falls had filed paperwork with the Palm
Beach County Sheriff's Office alerting the agency to closed roads and devising
an alternate emergency response plan. It was also unclear if the postal service
was advised that mail delivery would be blocked for several days, violating what
is known as the “obstruction of correspondence” law.
