PALM BEACH — The Breakers West Association Master Board re-voted on Monday to overturn its original vote to kill dozens of ducks in the community.

Earlier this month, CBS12 News reported the HOA board's controversial decision that left members of the community up in arms.

Experts from the Animal Rights Foundation of Florida explained that removing the ducks means killing them and that a more humane and long-term approach would be the removal of the duck eggs.

The board originally voted down the removal of the eggs, choosing to move forward with the trapping and killing of the birds which experts say could cost up to $50 per duck.

The ducks typically congregate around the lakes, and while some were growing frustrated by the bird droppings, others say they welcome the guests and don’t want to see them get hurt.

Residents in the HOA even started a petition, gathering 157 signatures from homeowners who wanted to see the ducks live.

The Breakers West Association Master Board re-voted on Monday, May 22, 2023, to overturn its original vote to kill dozens of ducks in the community.

Instead of removing the ducks, the board has now decided to fine the homeowners who are caught feeding them.
