Owners of properties in a homeowners association were outraged after the HOA
called police on them over a boisterous meeting during which residents objected
to a fee hike.

Videos obtained by WFOR-TV captured the chaos at the Tuesday evening meeting at
the Mandarin Lakes neighborhood in Naranja Lakes of South Miami Bay, Florida.
Residents said that the meeting was cut short after police arrived because the
property owners were upset at the $350 increase.
"The issue is that the HOA fee is going up for the second time in one year and
we were given short notice about the increase and a lot of things on the new
budget don't make sense," said Zoe Sosa, one of the residents.
She said that residents were also angry that they were still
paying the car insurance for security that no longer uses
cars but uses golf carts instead.

"We haven't seen any refund from the previous budget, what happened with the
cars, what happened with the maintenance of the cars and what's going on,"
Sosa added.
Residents also complained of crime, broken amenities, and cars being constantly
towed.
Kristen Marti said the HOA leadership ignores people who bring up the problems.
"They discredit me, they tell me basically go away. This is how it is, if you
don't like it, move out," she said.
Another resident told WFOR that he felt "threatened" by the HOA as well as
"outraged."
Residents say they are organizing to request a special meeting and vote the HOA
board out in order to install board members who will listen to their complaints.
There are over 370,000 HOAs in the U.S., representing over 40 million
households, according to HOA-USA.
