ALERT : MEDICAID CUTS !
Posted March 29, 2003

The House of Representatives has approved a Budget Resolution that would cut Medicaid programs by $95 billion over 10 years.  These cuts include  funds for nursing homes and other long-term care services.

The Senate is currently working on its Budget Resolution, which is not likely to contain Medicaid cuts.  Then it is expected to turn its attention almost immediately to approval of the final budget agreement with the House. The House and Senate leadership are meeting to decide on the contours of the final budget agreement.  The Budget Resolution may be finalized by the House and Senate in the next few days.

It is critical to hold the line in the Senate, which has indicated support for a temporary increase in federal Medicaid funding.

Those who are concerned about reducing Medicaid funds should call their  Senators as soon as possible to ask them to oppose Medicaid cuts in the final Budget Resolution.

The Budget Resolution is on a very fast track.  Final action on the conference report (i.e. the agreement between the House and Senate) may be completed in the next few days.

Therefore, immediate action is needed.  Contact your Senators:
