PEORIA - A 77-year-old woman who refused to pay her homeowners association fees will be evicted from her Westbrook Village home this week.

Peoria Constable Ron Myers, who says he is in a no-win situation, plans to remove Marie Brown from her home with the help of Peoria police, firefighters and social agencies.

As constable, Myers is responsible for carrying out the court order directing that Brown be evicted.

Brown has been served an eviction notice which gives her until 5 p.m. today to vacate the home in the 9600 block of West Taro Lane.

The Westbrook Village Homeowners Association won a court order to sell Brown's house at a sheriff's sale because she refused to pay association fees. She owed more than $27,000, including fees, assessments for landscaping work and legal costs.

The house sold in September for $52,500.

She had a period when she could have acted to save the house but failed to do so. Since March, she has been scrambling to find ways to avoid eviction.

She refused to pay the association fees because of what she considered unfair treatment and poor-quality landscape maintenance work done on her property under a court order.

Brown said she has no plans. "Everything is rotten. I give up. I'm not going to do anything," she said. "I'm blocked every way that I turn."
