Fight homeowner associations

It is time that someone, somewhere took action against homeowner associations. They cause so much stress and aggravation in the lives of those of us who own our own homes, pay taxes and live as fine citizens.

If our state is not willing to protect the welfare of our citizens, even of the citizens who may run into financial problems, we are not better than dictatorships. It seems for many legislators it is more important to protect the welfare of attorneys and the greed of "investors" than the welfare of Florida's families. What a shame.

These are not deadbeats. These are hard-working families trying to make ends meet and do live in brotherly and neighborly love. HOAs are like Fidel Castro claiming he needs his dictatorship for the protection of Cuba's citizens. Give me a break.

Our HOAs at Villas Del Mar Association Inc. make life anything but pleasant to those of us who live here. I am determined to fight for reforms as our owners need protection against these kind of abuses -- real fast!

Letters went out a few days ago to many of us who have a friend, a partner, a soul mate, etc., living in our homes -- after being approved as such. Now after many, many months, the board of directors is sending letters to all of us saying that whoever lives in your residence must be put on the deed, or give said person cause to vacate your property or sell the house and move away. That is only the beginning of some of the "nastiness" that is going on.

Another "law" of this board is that anyone 18 years and under must be accompanied by an adult to the pool. Yes, just picture someone 17 years old waiting to be accompanied by an adult to the pool. I think it is boards such as ours that need adult supervision in many ways.
