| FLORIDA -- June 17, 2003
The Florida based grassroots organization
Cyber Citizens for Justice, Inc. is proud to announce that another great
consumer organization, FHC (Fair Housing Center of the Greater Palm Beaches),
is joining their growing consumer alliance. Both organizations pursue many
common goals, especially the improvement of housing conditions in the State
of Florida. While CCFJ, Inc. is more specialized in pushing for necessary
legislative reforms regarding mandated properties, FHC is a "Private" Enforcement
Agency with the mission is to ensure equal and affordable housing opportunities
for all people by promoting culturally diverse communities through open
housing and the elimination of all barriers to that goal.
Vince Larkins, President/CEO of the FHC,
says that phones are ringing off the hooks at the FHC offices from residents
who live under Condo and Homeowner Associations. ”We are excited about
the great opportunity we have to come to the needs of residents under assault
by unscrupulous individuals at the helm of many associations in Palm Beach
County and throughout the State”.
The FHC conducts investigation into violations
of federal, State and local fair housing laws that prohibits discrimination
based on a persons race/color, national origin, sex, familial status (kids),
disability, religion, marital status, age or sexual orientation.
The FHC can now assist individuals who call the FHC, and live in housing
controlled by Associations, to the CCFJ for the help. The FHC works in
partnership with HUD and the Justice Department to enforce fair housing
laws and also assist consumers seeking legal redress through the federal
courts.
In addition, the CCFJ/FHC alliance will
also collaborate to educate consumers, as well as the municipalities where
they live, about consumer rights under Condo and Homeowner Associations.
Jan Bergemann, President of CCFJ, is sure
that the cooperation with FHC will help to get the message across to our
legislators that legislative improvements and enforcement in the Housing
sector are necessary. The fact that many desperate home- and unit-owners
are calling the FHC hot-line for help is just another sign that homeowners
feel left alone by our government which created these associations without
protecting the consumer.
Our Home should be our Castle, but only
will be if the laws of our State protect us from abuse and dictatorial
behavior. Given rights need to be returned to the citizens of Florida!
