THE VILLAGES - Joe Gorman was selected to serve for another year as the leader of the Property Owners’ Association of The Villages.

The returning president was the only person nominated to lead the organization that has advocated for issues in The Villages since 1975.

Meetings of the POA are no-frills events, and they’re a place where every member present gets a vote, like during Wednesday’s election of new officers.

Following his selection along with those of his fellow new 2004-’05 officers, Gorman thanked the more than 100 members present for their loyal support.

Joe Gorman addresses members of the Property Owners’ Association of

The Villages on Wednesday in the Paradise Recreation Center.

“This is a great honor being your president,” Gorman said. “Hopefully we will be able to continue this tradition and do things that are in the best interest of residents.”

Lady Lake Town Commissioner Ty Miller was in the audience and was confident in the POA’s choice for leader.

“Joe tells it like it is,” Miller said. “He’s for the residents.”

POA member Cliff Robertson agreed.

“He’s absolutely fantastic,” Robertson said. “He gets his point across. He’s not afraid to say something, but he doesn’t go out screaming and yelling.”

Gorman re-emphasized the 29-year-old POA’s primary goal, which is to see that supervisors of the Village Center Community Development District become elected officials rather than the developer’s appointees.

“That’s the big kahuna of an issue here in The Villages,” Gorman said. “We literally do not have representation on a lot of issues.”

Also elected Wednesday were Bill Garner, treasurer; Mary Paulsboe, secretary; and Pete Cacioppo, Dorothy Cheshire, Jeanne Regnier, Richard Kilgore, Al Johnson, Irving Yedwab and Martin Kutnyak, directors.

The POA meets at 7 p.m. the third Wednesday of each month in the Paradise Recreation Center.
