“From Justice As A Foundation All Rights Flow”

DELAND, May 8, 2009

PLEASE VETO PROPERTY INSURANCE DEREGULATION BILL H 1171/S2036

Dear Governor Charlie Crist,

With all due respect, please veto the above bill. It clearly contradicts about everything you promised Florida’s citizens in regard to insuring their homes.

Admittedly, Florida’s property insurance system has serious problems, but please don’t fix them on the back of our homeowners and condo owners, who are already suffering financially. The provisions of this bill will do nothing for Florida’s citizens – and it for sure will not provide consumers with a choice, as proponents of this bill claim. These are the same proponents you have been fighting since you became Governor – the insurance industry. Deregulation hasn’t worked once!

Citizens and media dubbed this bill the State Farm Bail-Out Bill for obvious reasons.

This bill, if enacted, will increase the cost of living in Florida even further. The failure of the legislature to pass any kind of reasonable community association legislation that would have helped many owners to protect their families’ homes together with the deregulation of property insurance will prevent many new retirees from coming to Florida. They simply can’t afford it any longer. Without a steady flow of newcomers, Florida’s chances to recover from the real estate disaster will get even worse. Is that what we want to see happening?

As the PEOPLES’ GOVERNOR you have to realize that this bill will do serious financial harm to Florida’s People!

With all due respect, I hereby ask you to veto this bill for the above listed reasons.

Warm Regards,

Jan Bergemann, President
